- JOHN’S INTEGRATED ROAD BIKE -
Another Columbus Trittico integrated road build, this time for John to ride in the wonderful rolling hills of the Cotswolds.
John came to me wanting a nice road bike which was suitable for riding both on fast club rides but also good for getting out in his local hills of the Cotswolds. He wanted a bike that is going to last, not only the frame, but the components too. It was a no brainer that the right way to go was with a full set of Chris King components. Those bearings just roll and roll, and when it comes to servicing them, it’s a case of cleaning out the original bearings, greasing, reassembly and you’re good to go for another few thousand miles. The hubs are built into Pacenti Picco rims for a solid wheel build that will stand the test of time.
John wanted a classy no frills build, so as many do, opted for some classic Feather features such as the integrated seat clamp and hooded dropouts with integrated flat mount bosses and a nice simple curved seat stay bridge. We didn’t initially plan on an integrated cockpit, but when Columbus released their solution we made some spec changes and built the bike even cleaner than what was originally planned, completely hiding the brake hoses.
John came to me with a paint idea based on a sunset fade with the mills of Saltaire in the foreground and a smokey sunset behind the silhouetted sandstone buildings. The ‘midnight’ Chris King colour suited this theme perfectly. In the end, the exact paint colour choices were taken from a Paul Smith x Kask helmet collaboration. Additionally, during the process, John’s wife was both diagnosed with and fought off breast cancer, so it felt only right to add a breast cancer awareness ribbon, a lovely gesture to both his wife and every other woman affected by this horribly disease. We added the Foo Fighters lyrics ‘MY HERO, HE’S ORDINARY’, which are in memory of John’s dad.
Overall, another lovely road bike ready to take on whatever the road throws at it!
