- LUCINDA’S CUSTOM LIGHTWEIGHT ROAD BIKE -

Lucinda came to me along with her partner Richard as they both wanted Feathers. It’s always an amazing compliment when you impress both parties of a couple with your work. It feels like such a pleasure to have both people in at the same time for a bike fit, build two bikes at the same time, and then have them collected together for twice the smiles. Most of all, though, it’s the excitement of knowing they will be ridden together.

Lucinda wanted a bike that would be light, because as much as she loved the hills, she wanted to make as easy work as possible of them. We opted to go for more classic lightweight tubing diameters using Columbus Spirit for lugs, but fillet brazing. It wasn’t a big bike, and Lucinda wasn’t a heavy person, so it made sense that the bike wasn’t too overly built and stiff. Combining this with SRAM Red, Chris King, and Pacenti rims and an ENVE Composites cockpit, the final weight came in at an impressive 6.8KG without pedals: Perfect for those trips away to the mountains with Richard.

Lucinda also wanted a fun paint scheme. The accent colours were picked to compliment the limited edition Chris King Sour Apple Green anodising. The paint is actually all silver, with the detailing masked off for some candy additions; essentially a coloured dye added to the clearcoat. Lucinda designed the paint herself. I have only done this once or twice, but thinks it’s a really fun way to get the customer involved a bit more and give the bike that extra personal feel.
