- MAT’S ROAD BIKE -

Here is Mat’s road bike. I’ve known Mat many years after he moved from rural Wales to Sheffield for university and I was still living in Rotherham.

Mat has clearly come a long way since he first arrived in Sheffield with sheep castration bands for handlebar grips on his BMX bike. It seriously couldn’t get more Welsh, but absolutely genius at the same time. Sometimes you just need to improvise and use initiative as a young student.

Anyway, he’s swapped the castration bands for Supacaz Sticky Kush, and that’s not the only thing he’s changed. He’s swapped the rattle can paint job for a work of art by the best in the game and the sole painter for Feather Cycles, Jack Kingston. The masking is just sublime and the speckles add a wonderful texture, all the while being completely flat to the touch under the glass like clear coat. The paint is inspired by the work of artist, Tyler Hobbs, a personal acquaintance of Mat.

The frame is built from a mix of Columbus Spirit HSS, Spirit and Life and is built using fillet brazed construction, painstakingly filed into smooth transitions between each tube. A serious bike for life here, full set of Chris King components with the hubs handbuilt into Pacenti Picco hoops for a bomb proof wheel build and the ever reliable and ergonomic Pro Vive cockpit.
